What is Valtrex Valaciclovir (500mg) used for

Valaciclovir is an antiviral medicine used to treat herpes infections of the skin, cold, and genital herpes. Valaciclovir works by inhibiting the DNA synthesis of virus cells, thus reducing the severity and duration of sores. Valtrex Valaciclovir is only indicated for use in post-herpetic neuralgia and herpes zoster (shingles). Valaciclovir is not recommended for use in children under the age of 18 months unless recommended by a healthcare professional.

Valaciclovir is also used to treat herpes labialis (cold sores) and herpes zoster (shingles) in adults.

Valacyclovir is available in tablet form and can be taken orally, intravenously, or by injection.

Valacyclovir may cause side effects that may not be listed here. Talk to your doctor if any of the following side effects gets better or if you have more serious side effects:

• allergic reactions like rash, itching, trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, severe dizziness, trouble sleeping, severe nausea, and vomiting
